Thus the stalwarts of the Challenge brave the mighty quest selflessly each year, but who are those who desire to partake in these courageous deeds? Those who would also step forth on this intrepid journey and ensure the ale of the Parish. There are many who covet the title of "Shuffle Warrior", and would seek the acclamation of completing the challenge, thus receiving the "Seal of the Phantom".

Of the many who seek this grail only two are known to be veritable contenders. What is known of these hopefuls?

King Les the Wondrous

The King under the Mountain, who leads the little folk, the "Wondrous" for his earlier feats of physical exertion. What he lacks in size and physical stature he makes up for in stamina and appetite! No stranger to the Parish nor certainly its ale, he once frequented the land in the company of the Fearless one. Until, it is rumoured, many husbands banded together and insisted firmly on his exile. In preference to a certain physical modification, (which would certainly have effected his wondrous powers...), he complied. A quaffer of prodigious quantity - never Keg - it is he who knows the secret of the Dark Stain. His return is widely proclaimed and his anatomy vouchsafed by the Sublime Phantom.
